With 8 days to go

Grant and I spent several hours in the phone last week making plans for when we first arrive in Costa Rica. Here's the scoop:

October 4th: Good bye dinner at The Stinking Rose Restaurant in San Francisco
Flight leaves at 10:15pm from SFO. We arrive in Atlanta at 6am (Grant flies standby, but right not it's looking like there is still plenty of room on the plane)

October 5th: Land in Altanta at 6am
Spend the next 12 hours roaming around Atlanta, possibly visit the aquarium or the park nearby. Get some southern food? Do they have vegetarian versions of southern food?
Leave Atlanta at 6pm, land in Costa Rica at 8pm (their time)
Get picked up by the Gaudy's Hostel shuttle at the airport
Spend our first night in Costa Rica!

October 6th: Catch an 11:25am flight from Pavas airport (outside of San Jose) to Puerto Jimenez. This flight lasts, no joke, 40 minutes. The plane is one of those 5 person death traps. But the price was decent, if you don't count extra fees we're bound to accrue due to our overweight baggage.
Once arriving in Puerto Jimenez, find a place to sleep for the night, or the next few nights

October 6th - October 14th: Adventure around the Oso Peninsula! We didn't book any hostels, excursions...nothing. We're playing it by ear, and using this time to explore that little corner of the country and just have fin. Puerto Jimenez is one of the jumping off points for the Corcovado National Park, which we have heard is full of wild life. Plus, there are beaches. What could be better? Goal: see a ton of parrots and hopefully (but doubtfully) a leopard. I can dream.

October 14th: Fly from Puerto Jimenez back to San Jose at 12:30pm. Slightly longer flight time: 50 minutes total. Another death trap of a plane. Is it weird that that is exciting to me?
We'll probably head back to Gaudy's Hostel, since they said they would store one of our bags for us while we were in PJ

October 15th: Grant takes the Chemistry GRE test at the University in San Jose at 8:30am. Then we'll spend the day trucking around the city and picking up last minute things like rainboots that we didn't want to even attempt to pack with us.

October 16th: Head to the Coca Cola Bus Station (apparently not in the best part of the city) and catch a morning bus for La Fortuna. Glenn will pick us up there and take us back to the Conservatory where we'll start out training right away. He and his wife leave the Conservatory to attend a conference on butterflies (?) in Florida on the 17th or 18th, but one of the other long time volunteers will be there to continue to train us, plus the groundskeeper is there. I guess that's when the rest of our adventure begins!

This weekend we went to Grant's cousins' wedding (cousin? maybe? extended family is hard to figure out beyond the usual titles) and the ceremony was beautiful. Although it rained in the morning, everything was dry and set up by the ceremony at 2:30pm. There were even blue skies! We had a cute picture that I insist on sharing:We're smiling because we're almost on our way to CR!
